Alpha Blondy & The Solar System
Ο θρυλικός Alpha Blondy, έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στην Καβάλα για μια μοναδική εμφάνιση στο φρούριο της πόλης.
Γεννημένος στην Ακτή Ελεφαντοστού το 1953, είναι ο πιο γνωστός γαλλόφωνος reggae τραγουδιστής, ενώ παράλληλα τραγουδάει και στη γλώσσα του, τη Dioula, όπως επίσης στα αγγλικά, αραβικά, ισραηλιτικά και patua, προσπαθώντας έτσι να περάσει σε όσο το δυνατό περισσότερο κόσμο το μήνυμα της αγάπης που πρεσβεύουν οι στίχοι του. Ο Alpha Blondy παρουσιάζει ένα γνήσιο έθνικ αφρικανικό ήχο, εμπλουτισμένο με reggae ρυθμούς με ένα δικό του μοναδικό τρόπο.
Με σημαντική πορεία στη μουσική για περισσότερα από 40 χρόνια, άρχισε να παίζει στο δεύτερο μισό της δεκαετίας του ’70 στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και ηχογράφησε τις πρώτες του επιτυχίες την επόμενη δεκαετία στην Ακτή Ελεφαντοστού: «Cocody Rock», «Jerusalem»κ.α. Με σχεδόν είκοσι στούντιο άλμπουμ στο ενεργητικό του, ο Alpha Blondy περιοδεύει στον κόσμο από τότε και προσπαθεί μέσα από τη μουσική του και τους στίχους του να επισημάνει τα κακά της εποχής μας για να μας βοηθήσει να χτίσουμε ένα καλύτερο μέλλον.
Ο Alpha Blondy νοιάζεται και τραγουδάει πάνω από όλα για την αγάπη και την ειρήνη. Στα 65 του χρόνια και με όλα αυτά που εκπροσωπεί, δεν είναι έτοιμος να συνταξιοδοτηθεί ακόμα. «… να δίνω και να εισπράττω αγάπη είναι αυτό που με οδηγεί τόσο στη μουσική μου όσο και στη ζωή μου και όσο ο Θεός μου δίνει δύναμη, θα είμαι εκεί.»
Ας ελπίσουμε ότι δεν θα τελειώσει ποτέ.

The most influential African reggae artist, the legendary Alpha Blondy, comes for the first time in Kavala for one and only appearance at the city’s Fortress.
He’s the best-known French-speaking reggae singer, but that doesn’t stop him also expressing himself in the language of his roots, Dioula, as well as the language of Bob Marley, English.
A range of spices that colour an art, and especially a message, which is good, as its purpose is to speak to as many people as possible.
On the circuit for almost forty years, he began playing in the second half of the 1970s in the United States and recorded his first hits the following decade in Cote d’Ivoire: «Cocody Rock», «Apartheid Is Nazism», «Jerusalem»… With almost twenty studio albums to his credit, Alpha Blondy has been touring the world since then and primarily defends a certain vision of music. That of a magical interlude that lets us point out the evils of our time to build a better one.
As commander of African groove, as he’s often portrayed, Alpha Blondy is only about love and peace. At 65 years old and wearing it well, he’s not ready to retire yet. «I would have liked to sing romantic songs, but my ghetto origins wouldn’t let me. Instead, giving and receiving love is what drives me, in my music as well as in my life. And as long as God gives me strength, I’ll be there.» Let’s hope it never ends.

MAD PROFESSOR
Γεννημένος το 1955 στην Γουϊάνα, ο “τρελός καθηγητής” της dub κέρδισε το παρατσούκλι του σε πολύ μικρή ηλικία λόγω της μεγάλης του αγάπης για τα ηλεκτρονικά μηχανήματα. Στην ηλικία των 9, κατασκεύασε το πρώτο του ραδιόφωνο εξ’ ολοκλήρου από την αρχή. Στην ηλικία των 13, μετανάστευσε στο Λονδίνο, όπου λίγο αργότερα άρχισε την καριέρα του ως τεχνικός συντηρήσεων μουσικών συσκευών και έτσι ξεκίνησε να συλλέγει εξοπλισμό παραγωγής και ηχογράφησης μουσικής, ώσπου το 1979, δημιουργεί το προσωπικό του στούντιο γνωστό ως Ariwa, απ’ όπου ξεκινάει και επίσημα η μουσική του διαδρομή ως παραγωγός για άλλες μπάντες αλλά και ως συνθέτης, με τα υπόλοιπα να είναι απλά ιστορία.
Σπουδαία παρακαταθήκη για τις επόμενες γενιές αποτελεί η τεράστια και ποιοτική δισκογραφία του, από το 1982 έως σήμερα. Δεκάδες πρωτοποριακά προσωπικά conceptual albums, πάνω από 50 σε συνεργασία με άλλους παραγωγούς ή μπάντες, αναρίθμητα EP’s και συμπράξεις με «ιερά τέρατα» του χώρου, όπως Lee Scratch Perry, Horace Andy, Sly & Robbie, Yellowman, Jah Shaka κ.α. κατέστησαν τον Mad Professor έναν εκ των κορυφαίων δημιουργών της δεύτερης γενιάς της Dub, αυτής της δεκαετίας του 80. Παράλληλα, πασίγνωστοι καλλιτέχνες, από ένα ευρύ μουσικό φάσμα, όπως Beastie Boys, Jamiroquai, Sade, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, The KLF, The Orb, Rancid κ.α. εμπιστεύθηκαν τις τεχνικές, τη γνώση και την αισθητική του τρελού καθηγητή, και εναπόθεσαν στα χέρια του την παραγωγή remixes των αυθεντικών συνθέσεών τους.
Το Σάββατο 20 Ιουλίου 2019, θα γίνουμε και εμείς για πρώτη φορά μέρος αυτού του πολυετούς μυστηριακού ηχητικού ταξιδιού στο Φρούριο της Καβάλας.

We often ask the question how sane is The Mad Professor ? Judging by the contents of his character and by the results of his recordings, and the variety of the artists who has passed through Ariwa studios then he is certainly one of the sanest producers around.
Neil Fraser began his musical career as a service engineer for mixing desks and amplifiers. This skill and his good ear for «on key» music became his asset when he began building a 4 track studio at his home in Thornton Heath. At school Neil was christened by friends Mad Professor who were amazed by the experiments he was carrying out. By the turn of the Eighties, Mad Professor launched the Ariwa label & soon after launched the now legendary Dub Me Crazy witch became on top with the variations of sounds and effects. He never stop producing since and became more than recognized, true living legend.
The Professor has new acts waiting to break the surface under the banner ARIWA – the Yoruba word for communication, artistes such as Kofi, John Mclean, Vitality, Lorna G, Peter Hunningale, Danny Red, Lindy Layton, Tracy Spencer, The Boom, Massive Attack, Jah Shaka, Sade, Brilliant, Clementine and The Orb have benefited from the Mad Professor’s touch, the Ninetiesalso have brought the Prof, into the realms of the remix market Electronic genius.
Mad Professor, pioneer of the genre is one of the most influential producers in the field. He offers a highend (Sunshine Reggae Festival), show, where musical influences vary between African and digital acoustic keys (Rasta Dub, Warrior Dub ft Macka B).
In 2019, he pushes the boundaries of technology to invent even more special songs like on this latest album : «Queens of Ariwa» (Jah9, Hollie Cook, Caroll Thompson…) or in collaboration with Cedric Myton (The Congos), U-Roy or Lee Scratch Perry.
